Consuming marijuana in California: What should you know?

The legalization of marijuana and cannabis in California opened up a new avenue of business opportunities for sellers and traders across the state. While cannabis was legal for medical use since the 90s, the use of marijuana and cannabis for recreational use was only legalized in 2016. California was one of the first states at the forefront of concerted efforts for liberalizing marijuana laws in the US. The companies have to be licensed by local agencies for testing, growing, or selling marijuana within each of the constituencies or jurisdiction. The counties and cities might only license some or none of the activities. The deliveries made by the state-licensed firms can’t be barred by the local jurisdictions according to the BCC regulation 5416.

While marijuana is legal in California for medical and recreational use, there are some restrictions and protocols or guidelines that you need to follow. Let us have a look at some of these rules and regulations that must be adhered to.

Anyone who is of the age of 21 or above can smoke marijuana regardless of the individual being a California resident or not. An individual can only purchase a daily limit of about 1 ounce of smokable stuff and similar amounts of the edibles, oils, and related products. Adults who are between the age of 18 and 21 only have permission to smoke through a physician’s recommendation or you need a marijuana ID card belonging to the state of California. If you want to purchase California marijuana then there are about 1700 dispensaries of marijuana in the state and you just need to show some type of government accredited ID for purchasing it from one of these dispensaries. For instance, a driving license or the residential proof on any ID will be sufficient for you to purchase marijuana.

So the next question is where can you smoke pot or consume marijuana? The smoking of pot is quite restricted in a number of locations or places. Almost all of the property in California, whether public or otherwise is restricted from using marijuana. There are some pockets that are available for legal use and most of these legal locations are reserved for private residences.

Here it is important to note that there are no legal restrictions for the people of California or even their guests for smoking in their private properties or homes, granted that they are the owner of that respective property. For those people who are either guests or have rented the homes, the owners of those respective places might have their own regulations and they might restrict or ban the use of marijuana in their place.

The law that legalized consuming California marijuana provided permission for using and consuming the drug in smoking lounges. The majority of the smoking lounges, though are scattered across the biggest cities as well as tourist places. However, there are newer lounges that are being planned and conceptualized to provide legal spaces for people to consume marijuana
