Rio Ferdinand claimed that Lionel Messi had unfollowed Alejandro Garnac due to the Manchester United footballer’s admiration of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Legendary footballer Rio Ferdinand has been slammed by Alejandro Garnacho’s brother Roberto for claiming that Lionel Messi unfollowed the Manchester United winger. Garnacho took the internet by storm having scored a mind-boggling goal with an overhead kick during Manchester United’s Premier League fixture against Everton at the Goodison Park on Sunday. After finding the back of the net, Garnacho came up with Ronaldo’s iconic ‘SIU’ celebration around the corner flag. Later, Ferdinand claimed that Messi had unfollowed Garnacho due to the Manchester United footballer’s admiration of Ronaldo.
“You know what I like about him? He doesn’t give a f***. Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo. He comes out, doesn’t care, ‘I’m a Ronaldo man’. Who’s the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he’s in the Argentina squad,” Rio Ferdinand told his Vibe with Five YouTube channel.”
Rio Ferdinand’s claims, however, did not quite go down well with Alejandro Garnacho’s brother Roberto. Sharing his stand on this matter on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Roberto called Ferdinand’s version “Fake.”
“Fake, Messi never followed him, stop making stuff up just to create hate, garna loves and admires both of them and you all Trying to create a rivalry,” Roberto Garnacho wrote, quoting a video of Rio Ferdinand.
“My lad said to me Messi has unfollowed him (Garnacho) because he comes out, don’t care I’m a Ronaldo man, who is the GOAT? ‘Ronaldo.’ When he is in the Argentina squad,” the former Manchester United and English defender was heard saying in the video.
Roberto Garnacho’s post triggered a huge debate on social media and Rio Ferdinand eventually reacted to it by commenting, “Was sarcasm bro.”
Alejandro Garnacho has represented Argentina thrice in international football. In the domestic circuit, Garnacho has shared the dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United. The 19-year-old Argentina international has so far scored eight goals in 54 appearances for Manchester United. His latest sublime strike against Everton helped Manchester United in claiming a resounding 0-3 win in the Premier League.
Alejandro Garnacho once again found his name on the scoresheet last night during Manchester United’s Europa League fixture against Galatasaray. Manchester United, however, ended up playing out a 3-3 draw with the Turkish outfit.
