The Oakland B’s, short for Ballers, are a new minor league team in the city, aiming to support fans after the A’s departure to Las Vegas. The independent club plans to start playing in the Pioneer League in 2024 and has hired former big league manager Don Wakamatsu as the executive vice president of baseball operations. With nine players already signed, the team is preparing for its first season. The organization has raised $2 million in seed funding and plans to invite fans to contribute to their crowd-funding platform. The team will play home games at Laney College and has plans to upgrade the ballpark to hold about 3,000 fans. Co-founder Bryan Carmel said that they aim to build something with the community and are excited to bring baseball back to Oakland.
