Mohamed Salah and Magnus Carlsen (X)
Mohamed Salah’s s club teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold once competed in an exhibition match against Magnus Carlsen.
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has a wish: he wants to play chess with World Champion Magnus Carlsen. A magician on the pitch, Mo Salah revealed that he was a huge fan of chess. “I play chess, I am addicted to chess. Every day, literally every day,” Salah told Sky Sports. When asked if he was good at the indoor sport, the Liverpool forward said that his rating was around 1400. “I’m good, I’m not Magnus, but I’m good. No one has a chance with Magnus. But hopefully, we will play one day,” he said.
The Egyptian footballer’s words prompted a reaction from Magnus Carlsen himself. The planet’s best chess player waved to Mo Salah while tagging him in a post on X. Carlsen is also an avid fan of football and has often expressed his love for the sport. He has regularly added Salah to his Fantasy Premier League squad, which helped him reach the top of that game. The chess great has now seemingly accepted the Salah’s invitation and it could be a matter of time before we spot this amazing duo together.
United States forward Christian Pulisic is another footballing star who met Magnus Carlsen. The former Chelsea player met the chess icon in London for a promotional campaign for Puma. Both Pulisic and Carlsen are ambassadors for the worldwide sports brand.
Mohammed Salah continues to be at the top of his game. The 31-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided five assists for Liverpool this season in 18 games. The Egyptian forward has won the Premier League, The FA Cup and the EFL Cup. He also won the Champions League in 2019 having beaten Spurs in the final. The rumours of his potential move to Saudi Arabia have finally settled down as Salah continues to chase more titles in England.
