Manchester City defeated Manchester United 3-1 in the Women’s Super League derby on Sunday. City now sits in third place in the WSL standings with 13 points, while United is in fourth with 12 points.
Captain Katie Zelem scored for United with a penalty in the 21st minute, but City quickly turned the game around with goals from Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp in the 34th and 35th minutes.
City were further boosted when United’s goalkeeper, Mary Earps, made a mistake, allowing Khadija Shaw to score. City were later reduced to 10 players after Laia Alexandri received a second yellow card.
Meanwhile, Arsenal secured their fifth successive WSL victory with goals from Stina Blackstenius, Caitlin Foord, and Frida Maanum. Chelsea, the league leaders, also extended their undefeated streak with a 5-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
Aston Villa secured a thrilling 3-2 victory at West Ham United, thanks to an added-time goal from Rachel Daly. Elsewhere, Tottenham and Leicester City drew 1-1, while Bristol City salvaged a 2-2 draw against Everton.
