Throwback Showdown: Browns vs. Broncos – Star Defenses and Ball-control Offenses Clash

The Denver Broncos are looking to return to .500 when they take on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. The Browns system worked well last year, but the team will now have to play without Brown’s quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The Broncos used a massive package of players and picks to get Russell Wilson from Seattle last year, and now that they’ve signed him to an expensive extension the pressure is on. Wilson initially struggled upon joining the team but is now playing better under Sean Payton’s guidance.

Denver’s recent success is owed in large part to their impressive defense, which collected a dozen takeaways over the past three weeks. The team has found great success under star cornerback Patrick Surtain II, and their predictive approach has resulted in a host of takeaways and a significant turnaround.

The Browns have a great defensive system with Myles Garrett leading the way, but now they will have to play without two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward. However, the team is putting faith in their new starters.

The Broncos will have to adjust to injuries themselves, most notably at starting safety Juan Thornhill. The Browns gained a critical insurance boost this week with the signing of Joe Flacco, who will be a resource for young QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
